Stonewall’s Bigot of the Year 2012

Cardinal Keith O’Brien, leader of the Catholic Church in Scotland, has been named as Stonewall’s Bigot of the Year 2012. He gets my vote.  His ‘Eminence’ (these people do so love their titles and do so hate to be questioned) has declared ‘war’ on the Scottish Government’s plans to introduce marriage equality and likens gay marriage to slavery and child abuse. He should know. The Catholic Church is well-acquainted with war, slavery and child abuse.

  1. Good Lord – one might say appropriately…. I love the mug by the way! Yes, indeed, his church is well acquainted with such things. How horrendous. Award well deserved.

  2. Not just the catholic church sadly, though they might have a justifiable claim to be the market leaders in most of these fields. If they were any other business they’d have no trouble peddling master-classes in bigotry, abuse and hypocrisy – and making a fortune [another fortune?] hiring out cardinals as consultants.

  3. Did you see the BBCtv documentary about the US teenager trying to “convert” from gay to straight? His mom said having a gay son was like having a son who was a terrorist. The US is full of “Christian Talebans”, ordinary parents as well as preachers. Bigotry begins in the home.

  4. same old same old N.Ireland had anti gay laws when I was growing up there and it is full of very disturbed people as far as I was concerned who had nothing to do with being gay. They where the nice ones.

  5. I’m afraid the Anglican Church doesn’t fare much better. We expected so much more from Rowen Williams and all he’s done is sit on the fence. I despair of all of them in their silly hats.
