Stonewall’s Bigot of the Year

Gay marriage is a hot topic across the pond, particularly since the State of New York legalised it in July. The noisy vitriol from the opponents is depressingly predictable. In the end, I hope reason will triumph over ignorance. Meanwhile, over in Blighty, Stonewall recently awarded Melanie Phillips the Bigot of the Year Award. It’s much deserved. Ms Phillips is a columnist for the Daily Mail (no surprises there) and has written extensively on LGBT rights (they shouldn’t have any), Civil Unions (What next, getting hitched to your budgie?) Gay Marriage (God says no). Perhaps her most ludicrous assertion is:

“Mad as this may seem [you said it!], school children are to be bombarded with homosexual references… In science, they will be directed to animal species such as emperor penguins and sea horses, where the male takes a lead role in raising its young.”

So, let me get this right. All fathers who bring up their children are gay? Does Ms Phillips drink?

In the final analysis, nothing I can say will make much of a difference but this video just might:

  1. Love comes in many shapes and sizes, love knows no boundaries or limitatons, love doesn’t see colour or sex or religion. Love is just love. It cocoons us, protects us, nurtures us and ultimately conquers all. Those that can’t see it don’t know it but are the ones that need it the most.

You and Liam are the lucky ones as you have found it. Rejoice in your love and share it with the world as that is the only way that we can come and join in acceptance with each other.

The world is full of enough hate, hate does not drive out hate, only love can do that……….Here’s hoping that Ms Phillips comes to know the true meaning of love in her life.

  2. . . simple rule-of-thumb ‘DO NO HARM’ – everything else drops into place. Having said that, I’d burn these intolerant bastards at the stake – having first torn out their tongues! (don’t have enough bandwidth out here in the sticks to watch videos but assume it’s a nutty bigot in action).

  3. Excellent blog as always but had to add that the first comment by Deb is glorious. I shall use that quote frequently as it nails the problem with these bastards. By the way I am about to treat myself to a kindle for the winter solstice and take it with me to my hideaway in the French Alps. I would like my first purchased download to be your book. Any chance I can get it before the 22nd of December?

    1. Thank you and yes, Deb says it straight. I’m not sure at the moment when the book will finally be released. It’s with the publisher at the moment. I think the Kindle version won’t be published until the paperback’s been out for a while. So, I’m afraid you’ll be experiencing the solstice without it. I’m sure you’ll manage somehow 😉

  4. OK – late to the comments as always these days – but very moved by the video – it is just wonderful. Thanks for posting it. And you made me LOLx2 with the analysis of the bigot of the year. 🙂
